The Attorney

Talmage is a partner at Shackelford Law Firm’s Dallas office and handles commercial litigation in both trials and appeals. During his 42-year career, he has successfully represented clients in state and federal court lawsuits and arbitrations involving oil and gas, real estate, banking, intellectual property, partnership disputes. Talmage is a highly successful commercial litigator who has received many lifetime achievement awards for his outstanding experience and history as a lawyer as well as the major contributions he has made with the Bar.

  • Luke Soules Award - Given annually by the Litigation Section of the State Bar of Texas to a Texas trial lawyer who embodies excellence in the practice of law and exemplary service to the State Bar. - 2022
  • Dan Rugeley Price Memorial Award - Given annually by the Texas Bar Foundation to a Texas lawyer who exemplifies being an accomplished legal writer and researcher, a talented and dedicated practitioner, and a servant of the profession.

The Historian, Keynote Speaker & Public Interviewer

In addition to the nexus between legal advocacy and public speaking, being a trial lawyer necessarily requires skill in asking witnesses the right questions.  Thus, my vocation has opened up another important avocation for me in the arena of onstage interviewing of public figures and best-selling authors at major forums.

Talmage Boston has won important trials and arbitrations involving millions of dollars, and also won appeals in the Texas Supreme Court, six different Texas Courts of Appeals, and the U.S. Fifth Circuit Court of Appeals. 


Speaker and Interviewer

Talmage Boston has spoken at the National Archives, six presidential libraries, World Affairs Council chapters in 12 cities, and 16 universities. He’s also conducted onstage interviews with a First Lady, a US Supreme Court Justice, a Nobel Peace Prize recipient, two Secretaries of State, seven Pulitzer Prize-winning historians, and dozens of best-selling authors. 


Author

Talmage Boston is the author of four books of history with forewords by John Grisham, Ken Burns, Frank Deford, and former US Attorney General Dick Thornburgh, and has written over 75 Op-Ed essays and book reviews for the Dallas Morning News.
