Talmage Boston of Dallas is the recipient of the 2022 Dan Rugeley Price Memorial Award from the Texas Bar Foundation. The Dan Rugeley Price Memorial Award was established by friends and family and endowed through the Texas Bar Foundation in June 1996. The award is given in memory of Dan Price who practiced law in Austin, Texas, and who passed away in January 1994.
The award celebrates Dan’s life as an outstanding lawyer who devoted himself completely to any task he undertook. The recipient exemplifies the qualities of an accomplished legal writer and researcher, a talented and dedicated practicing lawyer, a servant of the profession as a volunteer and an advocate on its behalf. The recipient exhibits an unreserved commitment to clients and to the practice of law, and demonstrates dedication to the Bar and service to the public with the same commitment, dedication and zeal which defined Dan Price’s life and work.
Talmage is a partner with Shackelford, Bowen, McKinley & Norton, LLP. He’s board-certified in Civil Trial Law (since 1988) and Civil Appellate Law (since 1990), with 29 published opinions. He’s been a Texas Super Lawyer since 2003; among Best Lawyers in America since 2013; was recipient of the Texas Bar Foundation’s Terry Lee Grantham Memorial Award in 2019; and was named an American Lawyer “Trailblazer” in 2021.
For the State Bar, he’s past Chair of the Litigation Section, Council of Chairs, and Annual Meeting Committee; served on the Board of Directors; still serves on the Texas Bar Journal’s Board of Editors; and has received eight SBOT Presidential Citations for outstanding service.
For the Dallas Bar, he’s past Chair of the Business Litigation Section and the Dallas Bar Foundation, for which he’s run the “Evening With…” dinners since 2011, generating over $800,000.00 to date for scholarships to minority law students.
His books: 1939: Baseball’s Tipping Point (2004, foreword by John Grisham); Baseball and the Baby Boomer (2009, foreword by Frank Deford); Raising the Bar (2012, foreword by former U.S. Attorney General Dick Thornburgh); Cross-Examining History (2016, foreword by Ken Burns); and How the Best Did It, to be released in 2023.
He’s a graduate of UT-Austin (B.A. 1975, Phi Beta Kappa; and J.D. 1978). He’s been Claire’s husband since 1984; and son Scott, daughter Lindsey, son-in-law Mitchell, and one-year-old grandson Nolan are his family.
Mr. Boston will be publicly recognized at the Texas Bar Foundation Annual Dinner held on June 10, 2022 at the Marriott Marquis in Houston. Mr. Boston has designated The Marvin Blum and Talmage Boston Endowment For Excellence Scholarship In Law at The University of Texas School of Law to receive a $1,000 donation in honor of his acceptance of the Dan Rugeley Price Memorial Award.
